Whitehorse Associate Producer

Start Date: November 2nd, 2015
End Date: June 30, 2016

Reporting to the Artistic Executive Director (AED) and the Managing Director (MD), the Whitehorse Associate Producer (WAP) will work with the staff of the Magnetic North Theatre Festival and the Whitehorse Steering Committee to successfully execute the 2016 Festival in Whitehorse, YK from June 9-18, 2016.

Responsibilities:

  • Identify and develop potential sponsorship relationships with production sponsors, catering sponsors, transportation sponsors, wine and beer sponsors, print sponsors, and others as required;
  • Identify and negotiate rental of venues for festival including: the Festival Office, Festival Bar, Industry Dinners, Festival Hub and other venues as required;
  • Working with the AED and MD to hire and supervise Whitehorse contract staff including: Industry Producer, Outreach and Encounters Producer, Box Office Coordinator, Volunteer Coordinator, Publicist, Technical Director, Production/Venue Manager, Administrative Assistant and others as required;
  • Ensure that cultural protocols are respected that include acknowledging Indigenous territory and the inclusion of Indigenous hosts;
  • Assist in securing restaurant venue for Pop-Up Love Party & other events as needed;
  • Venue contracts;
  • Ad sales for the Festival Program;
  • Liaise with Yukon Arts Centre (YAC) to secure/develop box office services/procedures for festival ticket sales;
  • Assist MNTF Marketing team with the coordination of Festival Launch in March (in Whitehorse);
  • Working with festival staff and host committee to coordinate social events in Whitehorse including Opening Night, Industry Feasts, Festival Bar, etc.

This position also plays a major role in building awareness of the Festival in Whitehorse, acting as the face of the Festival on the ground. Well-honed personal communication and organizational skills will be essential to the success of the ideal incumbent.

Requirements:

  • Two to three years experience in event production and procuring event sponsors;
  • Excellent communications and interpersonal skills to enable the building of solid relationships, both internally and externally;
  • Knowledge of Indigenous cultural protocols;
  • Demonstrated strategic thinker, organized, and action and results-oriented;
  • Ability to work independently and within a team environment towards achieving measurable results;
  • Exceptional organizational skills and the ability to coordinate a variety of projects, activities and events while meeting staggered deadlines;
  • Previous experience in the performing arts business is an asset.

Industry Producer

Start Date: January 2016
End Date: June 30, 2016

Reporting to the Artistic Executive Director (AED) and the Managing Director (MD), the Industry Producer is responsible for development and implementation of the Industry Series at the 2016 Festival in Whitehorse, YK from June 9-18, 2016.

Responsibilities:

  • Design and oversee contact with the national and international presenting community including mail-outs, emails and phone follow up;
  • Research, contact and confirm International and National Presenters to participate in the workshops/round-tables, Encounters, as workshop leaders and Moderators;
  • Design and organize workshops/round-tables, Pitch Sessions, Market Place and One-2-Ones for the Magnetic North Theatre Festival’s Industry Series;
  • Ensure that cultural protocols are respected that include acknowledging Indigenous territory and the inclusion of Indigenous hosts;
  • Be present at all the workshops/round-tables in Whitehorse to introduce the Leaders to the participants;
  • Cultivate introductions at the Festival between companies who are or have been presented at the Festival and between interested national and international presenters;
  • Assist in identifying funding sources for industry participants and delegates, and assist them in preparing an appropriate budget;
  • Responsible for producing content for all Industry Series publications;
  • Immediately following the Festival, follow up with delegates, presenters and attending artists to track tours and other opportunities that have been booked as a result of contacts made at Magnetic North, and then put them in touch with our Communications Director for follow-up;
  • Prepare a written report documenting this information.

The ideal candidate will:

  • Specific experience with, or knowledge of, the national and local theatre scene, the mainstream arts community, the operations of non-profit societies, and multi-event operations is desirable;
  • Have strong organizational skills, be detailed oriented with a strong ability to prioritize, multitask, and meet deadlines;
  • Knowledge of Indigenous cultural protocols;
  • Be reliable, hard-working, conscientious and a team player with a positive attitude;
  • Have computer literacy (knowledge of Microsoft Word, Excel, and Outlook are required);
  • Proven interpersonal and leadership skills, work well independently and with others;
  • Be creative, resourceful, flexible, and take initiative;
  • Demonstrate appropriate problem solving capabilities, be able to assess and handle difficult situations;
  • Have excellent communication skills, both verbal and written.
