Saturday, June 6
Starting at the head of the Sentiers des Voyageurs Trail
(Intersection of Rue Laurier & Rue Victoria, Gatineau)
Before beginning their performances at the Festival, the Debajehmujig Storytellers of Manitoulin Island will undertake a solemn, but joyful Sunrise Walk to mark their arrival in a new location. For their arrival in Canada’s capital, a historic route has been chosen that will see them traverse the Alexandria Bridge as the sun rises over the Ottawa River, and end at scenic Nepean Point.
The Sunrise walk will begin at 4:45AM on Saturday, June 6, and everyone is welcome to walk with us. Participants can meet at the trail head of the Sentiers de Voyageurs in Gatineau, QB (trail begins at the intersection of Rue Albert and Rue Victoria). We’ll travel at a leisurely pace as the Debajehmujig Storytellers sing and drum. There’s no speaking during the walk but the mood is peaceful and joyous, as the Debajehmujig Storytellers are happy and honoured to be invited into someone else’s territory to share their stories. Once the walk ends at Nepean Point, everyone will socialize and refresh with one another.

The Sunrise Walk will last for approximately 90 mins. Please wear comfortable shoes and clothing, and dress appropriately for the weather. In the chance of inclement weather, the Sunrise Walk will be re-scheduled to Sunday, June 7.
