We’re very pleased to announce that we’re partnering with Soup Ottawa to showcase brilliant voices in the Ottawa arts scene this June as part of our 2015 Festival! Soup Ottawa is a recurring micro-grant participatory dinner event: people come together to share a meal and the proceeds from the evening go directly to the winning project.
The theme for the event comes from our very own 2015 Festival theme, Radical Lessons for a Meaningful Life. We encourage all performance artists, including musicians, spoken word artists, dancers, theatre artists, and groups engaging in collaborations within those fields to submit an application to pitch their projects before an audience of national and international artists, presenters, producers, and a local audience of community-minded supporters.
A committee of Soup Ottawa organizers and Magnetic North staff will choose 3 projects to be presented the night of the event (presented by you!). How do we choose? Community benefit is the main thing we’re looking for, but we also consider the project’s creativity, achievability, and connection to the theme. We may prioritize projects that aren’t eligible for conventional means of support. 3 more projects will be selected to present by the community via online polling, giving you even more of an opportunity to spread the word about your radical idea.
