In all accounts, Magnetic North was a success. We surpassed our previous Ottawa Festival ticket sales on day 2 of the festival, going on to surpass sales by over 30% and selling out passes weeks before the festival even opened. Several performances were sold out including the entire run of the Rideau Project / Projet Rideau where we had to turn away hundreds of wishful patrons. For those of you who missed out, you have the opportunity to see the Rideau Project / Projet Rideau September 17-19 at Festival Zones Théâtrales.
The true success story of the 2009 edition was the Ottawa theatre community playing fantastic host and truly embracing the festival. Magnetic North engaged the community through the Rideau Project / Projet Rideau, Speed Dating, Pitch Sessions and the community co-hosting the Festival Bar each night. Thank you.
Magnetic North will head to Kitchener-Waterloo for the eighth edition June 9-19, 2010 so mark your calendars! Stay tuned to Magnetic North events and announcements at www.magneticnorthfestival.ca.
THANK YOU TO THE REAL STARS, OUR VOLUNTEERS
Volunteers are the backbone of any organization. This commitment of time, energy, resources and passion are more than simply necessary; they are vital to the success of any organization.
It was heartwarming and amazing to see so many volunteers selflessly contribute their time and energy to the festival--often on very short notice—as well as go above and beyond the call of duty to ensure everything went smoothly.
We were pleased to offer two amazing ambassadors to the festival with the first Magnetic North volunteer appreciation award, the Marion and Richard Ambassador Award. These volunteers have volunteered their time and talents at every single Festival to date, travelling with Magnetic North all across the country.
On behalf of everyone at Magnetic North, thank you!
