MAGNETIC NORTH ATTRACTS AWARD-WINNING PRODUCER FOR 2008 FESTIVAL

We are pleased to announce Naomi Campbell to the position of Industry Series Producer/Touring Liaison for the 2008 Festival. Naomi is an award-winning producer of over sixty new Canadian works. She has been Nightswimming's producer since 1994, a position she also held with Mammalian Diving Reflex from 1998 until 2007. Naomi took both companies from project-based groups to full-time, internationally acclaimed strongholds of contemporary Canadian theatre. She is also the show producer for DVxT Theatre and coordinates Obsidian Theatre's Apprenticeship Program. She has consulted for Artistic Fraud of Newfoundland, b current and Aluna Theatre as well as providing ad hoc assistance to dozens of theatre practitioners across the country. Naomi has produced tours to the UK, Denmark, the US and across Canada.

“Naomi Campbell is one of this country’s most experienced and respected producers, and her experience touring both nationally and internationally gives her the unique skills and perspective necessary to program the Industry Series and to advise those companies whose work appears on the Magnetic North mainstage. Naomi has a quick mind and generous nature, and she is enthusiastic about helping artists succeed. I can think of no better candidate to lead the Magnetic North Industry Series into its first ever collaboration with PACT.”
Ken Cameron, Artistic Director.

Naomi will program the Industry Series, a must attend event for the Industry Professional. Every year, Magnetic North brings together established and emerging artists, presenters, producers, agents, programmers and general managers from across Canada and around the world to encourage dialogue, networking and exchange. Through the Industry Series, national and international guests can exchange ideas, collaborate on future projects, discuss touring opportunities, attend performances in the festival, get together for a series of one on one conversations, and take part in lively discussions. Magnetic North will partner with the Professional Association of Canadian Theatres (PACT) for the 2008 festival, bringing more than 350 delegates together in one place – taking the Industry Series from its previous two day series to a full five days.

“I am very pleased to join the Magnetic North team, especially as this year brings PACT into the very heart of the festival” says Campbell. “It is only fitting that these two organizations should come together, as Magnetic North was borne in part of an urge by a group of determined PACT members, to create and then celebrate a new paradigm for Canadian theatre, one that encouraged and facilitated touring. I am very excited by the possibilities this collaboration offers.”

Kirsty Munro is joining Naomi as the Industry Series Associate. Kirsty has been the Operations Coordinator at Rumble Productions and most recently, the Assembly Associate Producer for the PuSh International Performing Arts Festival in 2008. Please join us in welcoming the new Industry Series team.
