Artistic Associate Rejoins Magnetic North

The Magnetic North Theatre Festival is pleased to announce the return of Ann Marie Kerr to the position of Artistic Associate for the 2008 Festival taking place in Vancouver June 4 – 14. You may remember her as the Artistic Associate for both the 2005 and 2006 Festivals and co-creating and performing in Chekhov longs…In the Ravine during the 2003 Festival. Ann-Marie is also an actor, director, theatre-creator and teacher. She is the recipient of Tarragon Theatre’s Emerging Artist Award and the Artistic Co-Director of the company she co-founded, This is a bird theatre company.

"We are especially pleased to welcome Ann-Marie Kerr back to Magnetic North Theatre Festival so that we may draw upon her experience. With the dual appointment of both the Artistic Director and Managing Director in the same year, Ann-Marie can provide valuable continuity. Institutional memory and organizational history are delicate things and can best be maintained orally. Ann-Marie is ideally suited to advise Magnetic North as it prepares for Vancouver 2008."Ken Cameron, Artistic Director.

Ann- Marie will primarily be responsible for Magnetic Encounters, Magnetic North’s national forum for artistic conversation which allows artists and audiences alike to participate more fully in the festival experience. As well, with her hectic schedule as a professional director in Halifax and Toronto and teaching at the National Theatre School in Montreal and at the University of Toronto, she will help Artistic Director Ken Cameron reach out to many communities across Canada over the course of this year, broadening the festival’s footprint.

“I am thrilled to be back and to have the opportunity to work with Ken, Ann and Kris on the Vancouver Festival – what a team!” says Kerr. “I value the opportunity I had to work with Mary Vingoe and she has left a great legacy to build upon. I look forward to the new ideas that will make up the 2008 Encounters series and to continue Magnetic North’s momentum on the West Coast.”
