The Currency of Culture: Writing for Diverse Audiences
Arts Court Theatre
When you have written a play with a distinct voice and with a specific audience in mind, what happens after the initial run? Why don’t we see culturally specifi c plays produced more often across the country? Are fears of voice appropriation preventing producers from tackling diverse plays? Are playwrights cross-pollinating or are they locked into their own niches? Is this a problem of playwrights, presenters, or is it a matter of the box offi ce? Listen to established and emerging playwrights give their impassioned views about the future of Canadian theatre.
